When Manfred Eicher found out that Henriksen, Seim, Jormin and Ounaskari had got together, he was quick to get them in the studio to document the result in what is the publication Arcanum. The quartet have met each other musically for over twenty years, but this is the first time as a separate band. Here they get the opportunity to explore each other's music in free and storytelling improvisations into the unknown, both for the audience and the musicians themselves. We know Arve Henriksen from Supersilent, Trygve Seim is court supplier at ECM and Santa Claus in The Source, Anders Jormin has most things on his CV - from Bobo Stenson and Charles Lloyd, to Bendik Hofset and Marilyn Mazur, while Ounaskari is the go-to drummer in Finnish jazz.
