THE SIDE EFFECTS

Friday May 21 USF Verftet

Welcome to Mars!

STIAN CARSTENSEN accordion, banjo, guitar, vocals MARIUS NESET saxophones THOMAS STRØNEN percussion

The trio plays mostly self-composed material and is based on European art music as a base for improvisation and interaction. They also focus on music by Bartok, Ligeti and Rachmaninov, and do not shy away from improvising pieces in free style or with sonata form or pop ballads as a starting point.

This band is a powerhouse, with soundscapes and musical detours you did not know you needed. More times than not, even they didn't know.

The orchestra deals with rhythm colloquia and volunteer-based harmony work arranged on a bed of spontaneous whims

with anachronistic hints of music history, be it country or minor key boredom. Or simply: a rich musical evening with "free jazz responsibly" as its motto.

The instrumentation consists of drum kits, electronics and percussion, as well as organ accordion, pedal steel and

saxophones in different sizes.
