German-Afghan Simin Tander uses the whole world in her music. The Oslo-based vocalist brings her heritage from the Middle East into a warm and powerful universe, manifesting in an ECM record with Tord Gustavsen and Jarle Vespestad, and collaborations with Nils Petter Molvær, Jan Bang and Arve Henriksen. With her new band, she brings together a ECM aesthetic with a unique and distinctive use of voice in lyrics about - and by - strong women: poetry in Pashto and interpretation of Sylvia Plath and Gabriela Mistral. As an elegant second voice, she has Indian Harpreet Bansal on violin. Hypnotically beautiful music!
