The road from playing in a dance band in Oregon to wild improv with Anthony Braxton and John Zorn is shorter than you think, at least if you take the trip via Melee, Graveyards and Akron / Family. Nate Wooley is a newcomer to the jazz scene, but has already left his mark - both in collaboration and as a solo artist. With the Columbia Icefield project, he has left the hard sounds for a while, and approaches music with a more romantic style. The songs are dedicated to the largest glacier in the Rocky Mountains, the soundscapes are huge and icy cold, the music is hypnotic.
