JOAKIM RAINER TRIO + FIRVEL

Thursday June 2

JOAKIM RAINER TRIO

JOAKIM RAINER PETERSEN  piano, ALEKSANDER RIRIS double bass RINO SIVATHAS drums

Trondheim-based Joakim Rainer Trio plays with his eyes set towards the future in the classic piano trio format, but with roots in jazz history. The music is spontaneous and playful, and the compositions build complex shapes, asymmetrical loops and open harmonies. The trio draws lines to composers and musicians such as Jimmy Giuffre, Andrew Hill, Luciano Berio and Kris Davis, and plays an exciting mix of expressions that are united by attentive, playful and focused interplay. The musicians in the Joakim Rainer Trio have backgrounds from a number of other bands such as Barrage, ØyvindLand, Bounce Alarm and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra.

FIRVEL

JAN TOBIAS JARLVANG trumpet ØYVIND KLØVE KJERNLIE pedal steel FRIDE NØSTDAHL HJELLE piano JOACHIM MØRCH MEYER double bass VERGARD STAUM drums

With a distinctive mood and timbre, Firvel draws you into a world of lyrical and catchy melodies. The warm combo of pedal steel and trumpet carries the melodies forward, and a playful, airy piano at the bottom is no stranger to letting it boil. The music is both subtle and expressive, and is mainly based on pianist Fride Nøstdahl Hjelle's compositions with elements from all the musicians in the band.

Jazzintro 2022

The young jazz musicians of the year 2022 will be chosen, and eight young, promising bands have been selected to play for titles and scholarships at some of the country's leading jazz festivals in the coming six months. During the final at Moldejazz in July, one of the bands will be named Young Jazz Musicians of the Year, and receive a launch package from the Norwegian Jazz Forum, a mentor program supported by Talent Norway and the Gramo scholarship of NOK 150,000.

Jazzintro is a launch program for young, Norwegian jazz musicians that this spring and summer will be shown at the country's largest jazz festivals. Among 55 applications, eight bands have been selected to participate: Bento Box, Munch Trio, Peders Hode, Ototoi, Joakin Rainer Trio, Firvel, Ask Morris Quartet and Stenøien / Hjemmen / Heide Bø.

From the preliminary rounds at Vossa Jazz, Maijazz, Nattjazz and Kongsberg Jazz Festival, four of the bands will advance to the finals during Moldejazz in July, where a winner will be chosen.

Jazzintro and springboard
Since its inception in 1998, Jazzintro has been very important in highlighting the talents of Norwegian jazz. Many of today's big jazz names have participated in Jazzintro early in their careers, such as Mathias Eick, Stian Westerhus, Anja Lauvdal, Gard Nilssen, Marius Neset, Hanna Paulsberg and Morten Qvenild. Previous winners include Monkey Plot, Albatrosh, Puma, In the Country, Urban Connection, Megalodon Collective and Kongle Trio.
